Child and Family Support Center continues renovation to Hyrum location

The Child and Family Support Center, a Cache County organization focused on strengthening families and protecting children, began renovation and construction in October to its new location in Hyrum.

With a strong outreach from the community, the building is expected to reach completion in June.

Mark Bergenson of Bergenson Construction has volunteered to oversee the completion of the project.

“I originally called Mark to get a bid on remodeling one bathroom,” said Esterlee Molyneux, the executive director of the Child and Family Support Center of Cache County. “After he learned about what services the center provides and what our goals were, he said, ‘you need to think bigger. How about this, if you come up with money for materials, I will donate my time to oversee an addition.’”

Along with the renovation, there will be a 2,100 square-foot addition to the existing 1,300 square-foot building.

The nursery will occupy the entire existing building, with the addition housing a large classroom, office space, bathrooms and a reception area.

“The Hyrum nursery has always been the tiniest room with a little table. The kids can’t even move around,” said Annika Madsen, a nursery aide. “The nursery will double in space, so the kids can actually play. They’re also adding a kitchen, and with the kitchen we can provide better snacks for the kids.”

Funding for the Hyrum location has come from a variety of sources, including community development block grants through the local Bear River Association of Governments office, a one-time legislative award, businesses, community members and civic leaders.

Molyneux expressed her gratitude to Hyrum city and the community for supporting the center.

“This building that will serve the community has literally been built by the community,” Molyneux said.

Services to those relying on the Hyrum location will be temporarily available at the Child and Family Support Center in Logan during the renovation.
