Smithfield’s Child and Family Support Center makes preparations to paint center on “Comcast Cares” d

The Child and Family Support Center, a Cache County organization focused on strengthening families and protecting children, has been making necessary preparations to its Smithfield location to participate in a Comcast-sponsored day of service held on April 25.

According to Lynn Nelson, the walls of the center have been remodeled and the sheetrock will be installed this week, so the center will be ready for community members to paint the interior of the center by the day of service.

“Paint and related supplies are being donated along with volunteer labor,” said Esterlee Molyneux, the center’s executive director. “This will give the facility a nice face-lift and will provide a more welcome and inviting facility.”

The Smithfield center, donated by Intermountain Health Care, has experienced a lack of funding while other projects take priority, so community involvement has been very helpful, according to Nelson.

“Everything that’s been accomplished in Smithfield has happened by people coming to us,” Nelson said. “We haven’t solicited help, it’s just people coming forward asking if they can help.”

While providing service to the center, community members will also be earning money for the new Smithfield library just by participating.

Comcast will award grant money for every volunteer in attendance, according to the Smithfield City March newsletter.

By providing the community with this service project, it will bring awareness of the center to those in the community who may benefit from its services, according to Molyneux.

“I believe that when the community is involved and invested,” Molyneux said, “then the community will reach out for support.”

Molyneux said she sees many benefits tied to the Smithfield City day of service.

“This is a beautiful partnership,” Molyneux said. “A day of caring so we have a nice facility to provide caring.”
