The Child and Family Support Center holds annual 5K as part of National Child Abuse Prevention Month

The Child and Family Support Center has teamed up with family support centers across Utah this year to bring awareness to National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Each center will provide a family friendly activity on April 25.

The center will hold a “Family Fun Run” on this day, known in previous years as “The Race Against Child Abuse.” The 10K, 5K and one-mile walk will begin at 10 a.m. at the Wellsville City Center.

Joining with other centers on this day will create a unified stand against child abuse, according to Esterlee Molyneux, the center’s executive director.

“To have the longest standing child abuse prevention agencies unite together for a day to recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month shows unity, impact and statewide outreach,” Molyneux said.

Leigh Dean, the center’s development coordinator, said the race will be similar to years past, but with a special emphasis on the family.

“We’re going to promote it as a family fun event,” Dean said. “It’s a great way to spend time with your family.”

According to the center’s executive director Esterlee Molyneux, the main reason for the run is to bring awareness of Child Abuse Prevention Month to the community and to raise funds for the center.

“This is a great way to support the child and family support center,” Dean said. “We are a community service that is available to help all members of our community and this is just a fun way that you can support our center.”
